Introducing the New Wendella. Currently under construction at Blount Marine in Warren, Rhode Island, the Wendella should arrive in Chicago early Spring 2007. With a passenger capacity estimated to be over 300 and a total enclosed and climate controlled main cabin, the Wendella will be perfect, not only for tours, but private events and weddings.
Watch this site more more details about the Wendella and progress photo's of the construction. For more information on booking the new Wendella for a private event, contact Craig Wenokur or Jennifer Perry at 312-337-1446 or via email at tours@wendellaboats.com

Construction begins March 2006. Pictured are the men and woman of Blount Marine working on the boat. Also pictured are: 1. Tim Graul, the boats architect, 2. Luther Blount, founder of Blount Marine and 3. Michael Borgstrom , President of Wendella Sightseeing Boats.
The steel they are standing in front of is the keel, the picture taken at the Keel Laying Ceremony. The number 320 is the designation Blount has given the boat and if you look closely you can see LHB. Luther Blount welded his initials into the keel as part of the ceremony.
The keel runs in the middle of the ship, from the bow to the stern, and serves as the foundation of the structure, providing the major source of structural strength of the hull. The keel is generally the first part of a ship's hull to be constructed, and laying the keel, or placing the keel in the cradle in which the ship will be built, is often a momentous event in a ship's construction--so much so that the event is often marked with a ceremony, and the term lay the keel has entered the language as a phrase meaning the beginning of any significant undertaking. |
