The Captain shall have a valid U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) issued Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) as Master of Steam or Motor Vessels of appropriate tonnage upon the Great Lakes and Inland Waters, Near Costal or Unlimited. They must be a U.S. Citizen.
The Captain shall, at all times, have the sole responsibility for ensuring the safety and security of the vessel, the passengers, and the crew. They shall ensure that all applicable rules and regulations are followed for each vessel they are assigned to operate, and assume responsibility for seeing that the vessel and its crew are ready to accept passengers, provide the tour, and associated activities in a professional and timely manner.

A Deckhand must be a U.S. Citizen 16 years of age or older. The Deckhand is an integral part of the safe operation of all our tour boats and the Chicago Water Taxi. They are charged with carrying out those tasks which support the Captain and allow for the vessel to function in its role as a tour boat or water taxi. Deckhands will also be required to work on the docks doing bag screenings, security, and dock maintenance. The deckhand works in an outdoor environment, often exposed to rain and other elements, including slick or wet decks.

The Guest Service Ambassador (GSA) is often our first point of contact. The GSA is responsible for ensuring the Wendella guest experience is a positive one. Mostly positioned throughout the docks, the GSA is required to stand, often on warm days, and occasionally on cold, wet pavement for hours at a time. The GSA will answer all questions about Wendella’s tours and services as well as the Chicago Water Taxi. Guests will often look to the GSA to answer general questions about Chicago, which may include directions or activity recommendations. The GSA will also assist the crew and ticket office with lining up and boarding passengers, scanning tickets, keeping the dock clean, and occasionally transporting supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. The GSA will also assist with any other tasks that may be needed for the smooth operation of the dock. This fun, outdoor position includes heavy customer contact and requires standing and affords an opportunity to interact with guests from around the world. The GSA needs to move between our docks which requires ascending/descending stairs frequently.
Qualifications & Requirements:
– Must be 16 years or older.
– Ability to work outdoors where you are exposed to rain, snow, extreme hot and cold temperatures.
– Foreign language skills are a plus, but not required.
– Flexible or open availability. May be required to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
– Must be friendly, outgoing, and enthusiastic!
– Prior customer service experience is a plus.
– Hotel/Hospitality/Tourism industry experience is a plus.

This is a skilled position performing watchman and custodial duties in support of our docks and boats after normal business hours. The position requires detecting and deterring unauthorized access to either the vessels or docks. This is an un-armed position, so the ability to communicate with law enforcement if needed, is required. The position requires the use of various communication devices, security equipment, and standard cleaning equipment, including mops, brooms, vacuum cleaners, and other custodial equipment. This is an outdoor position that involves ascending/descending stairs and moving between docks and vessels. The Overnight Watch & Maintenance position requires the ability to stand for up to 2 hours without a break in various weather conditions including heat, cold or rain. On most days, the person filling this job must be able to work alone, unsupervised, and occasionally move up to 50lbs. The shifts are typically 12 hours, from 8:00pm-8:00am.

– Performs light custodial duties as assigned.
– Keeps premises in clean and orderly condition.
– Removes litter and waste as needed.
– Cleans boats and docks.

– Ability to work independently.

Maintenance is responsible for assisting Captains and management in the safe operation of Wendella Facilities and Vessels. He/she is charged with carrying out those tasks that support the mechanical, electrical, propulsion and power plant elements of the Wendella fleet and facilities. They assist in ensuring the vessel functions safely in its role as a tour boat or Water Taxi. This includes, but is not limited to, securing the vessel during docking, undocking and while underway, maintaining vessel cleanliness, providing manpower for tasks as assigned, performing security surveillance and assisting in providing the necessary manpower to accomplish required preventative maintenance on Wendella equipment. Security sweeps, janitorial duties, and other troubleshooting is required.
Qualifications & Requirements:
– Must be at least 18 years old.
– Qualified as to sight, hearing and physical condition to perform duties.
– Physically able to perform all tasks associated with the protection and evacuation of passengers during emergency situations.
– Must be able to use a computer to complete work orders.
– Experience with boat a plus, but not required.
– This is an entry level position that provides training but prior Diesel engine, mechanical system or electrical experience preferred
